Fred S. Klipsch Educators College

Vision and Mission

To prepare educators to be transformational leaders who create vibrant schools where instruction is personalized, and every student thrives.

Accomplishments

In June 2023, 91会所’s Fred S. Klipsch Educators College earned national recognition from the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ), receiving an A+ rating in the Teacher Prep Review: Strengthening Elementary Reading Instruction report. This distinguished the college as one of just 48 programs nationwide to achieve the highest possible rating and the only program in Indiana to do so.

This fall, Klipsch Educators College will welcome two new faculty members, Dr. Anne Elsener and Dr. Tracy Hastings, who are experts in reading science, to join Dr. Betz. All are recognized nationwide as being exceptional. The distinctive faculty and curriculum, aligned with evidence-based instruction, highlight the college’s success in preparing future elementary teachers to meet the highest standards of scientifically grounded reading instruction.

This spring, Klipsch’s first cohort of 20 students is expected to graduate with a Master of Science in Reading Sciences.  These students work in schools and will apply their advanced knowledge and evidence-based practices to support other teachers, thereby improving student outcomes.

Challenges

The Klipsch Educators College and the teaching profession continue to seek and find highly qualified, talented and passionate future teachers.

Goals and Objectives

  • We are developing a growing, robust and talented student population by establishing an extensive student outreach process and an inclusive array of scholarship opportunities. We will include staff, professors, and student ambassadors regularly communicating and forming relationships with student applicants.
  • The Klipsch Educators College develops exceptional partnerships to maximize mutual benefits, including student learning opportunities, faculty research and expertise, excellent teachers and school leaders, and national recognition for the university.
  • To continue establishing world-class faculty and leaders.
  • To improve student learning and outcomes by cultivating innovative learning models that integrate AI, cognitive science, and the science of reading to engage students. These models would emphasize personalized and engaging learning experiences tailored to individual student needs.
  • Continue recruiting and training our diverse set of undergraduate and graduate students and a world-class, diverse faculty.
  • Grow the fundraising efforts to communicate, design, and build a world-class facility and increase scholarship funding for top-talent students.

Why This Matters to Marian's Mission

The Fred S. Klipsch Educators College is transforming teacher preparation in Indiana and beyond. It sets the standard for achieving excellence in learning, through teaching in the Franciscan and liberal arts tradition.

Klipsch is the only school of education in the state to receive an A+ rating from the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) and is nationally recognized for its rigorous, evidence-based teacher preparation programs. Through deep integration of the science of reading, cognitive development, and character training, Klipsch is helping educators and communities make dramatic improvements in K-12 student learning outcomes. These initiatives address critical IP35 goals of improving student proficiency, increasing third grade reading levels, and expanding quality teaching in underserved districts.

The Klipsch Educators College’s Center for Vibrant Schools has served more than 25,000 K-12 students, 2,200 teachers, and over 200 schools that have been positively impacted in the 2024–2025 academic year alone. This center serves as a beacon for innovation in teacher recruitment, retention, and development — key strategies for building Indiana’s long-term talent pipeline.
