Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine

Vision and Mission

  • Provide an education consistent with the Franciscan Values of Dignity of the Individual, Peace and Justice, Reconciliation, and Responsible Stewardship.
  • Advance excellence and wellness for individuals, and the common good of 91会所 and therefore of society, in our academic programs by increasing and advocating for justice, dignity and unity.
  • Maintain a universally respectful learning and working environment.
  • Provide a curriculum anchored in the seven Osteopathic Core Competencies.
  • Continue the Catholic tradition of love, education and healing by bringing together people of varied backgrounds and faiths to provide healthcare rooted in the belief of dignity of the individual and that every human being is a unity of body, mind and spirit.
  • Commit to promoting population-based health and defending against health disparities; attending to the whole person; providing care for underserved and under-resourced communities; promoting the common good; acting on behalf of justice.
  • Commit to actively supporting and encouraging hospitals in Indiana and surrounding states in the expansion of graduate medical education either by increasing positions in existing residency and fellowship programs or by creating new programs.
  • Promote the tenets of primary care-Comprehensive, Coordinated, Continuous, and Interactive with Communities-to provide a foundational perspective on which to build.

Mission of the 91会所 Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine

The Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine is a Catholic medical institution built on the inspired vision and values of our Franciscan heritage and dedicated to preparing osteopathic physicians who are committed to the complete healing of individuals’ bodies, minds and spirits. This institution is committed to the continued development of the osteopathic profession through research, service and teaching.

Graduate Medical Education Mission Statement for the Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine

Consistent with the Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine mission and vision, W-COM will provide a safe, stimulating and supportive clinical learning environment focused on high quality patient care, personal and professional development of learners, and training of physicians focused on a career of service to medically underserved communities and populations.

Accomplishments

  1. For our third year in a row, Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine has seen a 100% residency placement rate. Students entering primary care for Class of 2025 was 59% and 44% remained in Indiana.
  2. July 2025, Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine submitted the application to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to become a sponsoring institution.
  3. In 2024-2025, 91会所 restarted the Ethics and Humanism Curriculum across all four years of D.O. education and in 2025-2026 will launch our San Damiano Scholars in the Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine program
  4. Significant curricular changes to support student academic success were undertaken in 2025. We will monitor the implementation and impact of these changes.
  5. Cohort training models have been established and continue to be pursued. This will diversify the student experience, highlight rural medicine, and paving the way for future class size expansion.

Challenges

The Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine faces the challenges of competing colleges of Osteopathic Medicine in the United States and expanding class sizes, leading to competition for high quality students, training sites for students, and faculty/staff. To overcome these challenges, we will remain innovative, nimble, and true to our Franciscan Values to maintain our competitive edge. And, we will remain a focused, Catholic medical institution built on the inspired vision and values of our Franciscan heritage, where mission meets medicine.

Goals and Objectives

  • Recruit students pursuing the health professions who align with 91会所's Franciscan mission
  • Attract, inspire, engage and promote faculty and preceptor partners in the health professions who prepare our students to be lifelong learners, leading toward the future.
  • Recruit Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine alumni to offer shadowing experiences to pre-med and/or first year students
  • Promote, design, and provide a learning environment that purposefully and actively transforms and prepares students to develop themselves as a THIS (trustworthy, healthy, inquisitive, and skilled health professional and leader
  • Serve the community needs through holistic disease prevention, health promotion, and health treatment.
  • Continue to expand the rural track and cohort models.
  • Continue to increase experiential and service learning.
  • Establish new partnerships and identify and pursue new funding opportunities
